Nuttall Oak Seedling
Quercus texana
If sawtooths are our early- drop favorite, the nuttall oak would be our late-drop favorite. A member of the red-oak family, our nuttall’s typically start dropping in December and have a relatively long drop window. We highly recommend incorporating late-drop varieties in to your plans, as they provide energy for your herd when they need it the absolute most. Nuttall oaks have become a popular ornamental planting as well due to their gorgeous fall color.
Nuttalls are quite popular among those managing for ducks, as they tolerate flooding. This also makes them a great choice for deer managers contending with seasonal flooding or moist soils.
